How do you tell apart the methylbutyls and the sec-pentyls?

a sec-pentyl group has R off the second or third carbon of a 5 carbon chain.
methyl butyl has R coming off a 4 carbon chain with an additional methyl group on the second or third carbon.

n- sec- neo- and iso-pentyl are variants of the same naming scheme.
methylbutyl is a different naming scheme, and could mean any of those (except n-) depending on the methyl's position/#

Okay, apparently the first carbon is the one that has a bond with the main chain
That said,
methylbutyl 1 = 2-methylbutyl
methylbutyl 2 = 3-methylbutyl
sec-pentyl 1 = 1-ethylpropyl or isopentyl
sec-pentyl 2 = 1-methylbutyl
