the downward force aka acceleration of gravity is caused by the warping of space
Imagine a stationary particle floating in empty space. If it were to travel 1 meter in either direction, it would take the exact same amount of energy. It's completely balanced, so the particle remains stationary.
Now imagine the space around this particle becomes warped. On it's left, space becomes elongated, on the right space is shortened. The 1 meter of empty space on the left side is now technically longer than the 1 meter on the right side. It'd take less energy for it to move 1 meter to the right. The particle is no longer in balance, so the particle can no longer remain stationary. It begins accelerating to the right. This is usually how we experience gravity, except stuff moves down from our perspective.
So warped space is causing objects to fall to the earth, but the real question is, what's causing space/time to be warped in the 1st place?
