I had a lot of trouble with calculus but the point of doing it over and over and over again is to get good at it so the problems are solved faster. And since calc is a fundamental skill required for all the higher division work, it was an extremely productive use of my time since it made my later EE courses easy.
Admittedly this does not apply to all science textbooks, but I'm just going to assume you're having a problem with math because that's where nine out of ten college stem related problems happen. In which case, understanding the math is paramount. If you get the math you can afford to bullshit most of the work if you don't get the math then you're going to struggle.
