I also appreciate that there are probably a few dozen people in the world who are irrationally fearful of small holes clustered together and literally can't even. But this trypophobia is just another example of non-scientific popsci garbage. It's people seeing some memes on social media and self-diagnosing certain phobias/conditions, even though the phobias/conditions themselves are heavily disputed.

>Trypophobia is a fear or disgust of closely-packed holes. People who have it feel queasy when looking at surfaces that have small holes gathered close together. For example, the head of a lotus seed pod or the body of a strawberry could trigger discomfort in someone with this phobia. The phobia is not officially recognized. Studies on trypophobia are limited, and the research that is available is split on whether or not it should be considered an official condition.A similar example may be the disgust that people feel looking at scat. That shit makes me feel queasy af. I could barely stomach a few seconds of 2 girls 1 cup. The question is whether this is a normal, reasonable phenomena, or whether we make this the focus of further research and recognise that there might be millions of people who suffer from scatphobia. Maybe we should even be raising awareness... Imagine all the unassuming people that could be triggered by so much as a smearing of poop on a toilet bowl. The truth is, it is an easily comprehensible phenomena: shit's just gross, smelly, and unsightly. Similarly, some people may feel some kind of discomfort looking at clusters of small holes for some of the reasons
