The virus is by then probably already reproducing a lot and is probably present in the spit in large enough amouts such that it could spread to others.
Another way could be through fecal matter, which as unpleasant as it sounds, can easily be a source of disease when people don't wash their hands (propperly) after using the toilet, as well as touching surfaces before they even get the chance to wash their hands.
You should wash your hands regularly, especially when you come home and when cooking. Try not to touch your eyes, nose or mouth when using public transport, public toilets or other places where you think surfaces may easily become infected.
