>>11419035You mean like topology, complex analysis, or geometry? All these things have their place in study for TCS (domain theory, topological data analysis, computational topology, space filling curve applications, analytic combinatorics and number theory, etc.). Hell, algebra and category theory are almost necessary and definitely common for any serious TCS work (I mean hadamard codes, semantics, lifting theorems like with nullstellensatz, etc.). Math is a more mature field by virtue of being older, sure, but the topics in the math department aren’t really sacred. For example, logicians used to study proof systems almost exclusively until CS departments started studying proof complexity, assistants, PCP / Arthur-Merlin games, etc. Hell,TCS is one of the big venues for game theory and optimization theory research these days as well.
