You disturb your sleep, so that dreams become visible, then follow your script.
The reason you follow the script, rather than breaking out consciously, is because until you break out, you are unconscious. You are not conscious when you are unconscious, and are therefore stuck with unconscious means. Like a script.
That is how you lucid dream.
