This is probably a dumb question but it really bothers me so I have to ask.
Does Earth HAVE to spin around itself in order to orbit the sun? Can earth hypothetically orbit the Sun without any spin?

Tidally locked planets are still rotating about an axis, right? Just in resonance with the body they're orbiting.

Most planets that orbit a large body spin on their axis, regardless of tidal lock. This spin on its axis is not required to orbit the star.
So no the earth doesn’t have to spin to orbit the sun.

Rotation around itself just happens because there's nothing to cause friction to stop it from spinning; Earth's rotation is slowing down due to tidal effects of the Moon on Earth (also, according to the great impact hypothesis proto-Earth's rotation speed was increased by the impact of another protoplanet which merged with this one; its remaining floating matter formed our today's Moon)

tidal locking is the lowest energy state of the stable orbit, if it spun exactly as much as to counteract tidal locking such that it appeared to not spin at all, that would be spinning, not the other way around.
