not every differential equation is equivalent to an integral equation, especially when you aren't working with ODEs. they're pretty much only equivalent in the case of linear ODEs. plus in applications it's way more likely that you'll want to relate a value to its rate of change rather than whatever interpretation you could find for its integral.
