Try and write it out for a general amount of
variables and a general power. e.g. (x^a + y^b)^n. Start expanding
it using your basic highschool foil method and you'll see the pattern.

I might have over complicated that, sorry. Just do
(x+y)^n = (x+y)(x+y)(x+y)...(x+y), see the pattern, and then do an inductive proof.
