Now in my third job that I actually got with 0 inside contacts, I have learned that most of the people there got in because someone who was there before them referred them. And I've been directly asked to refer people to my own contacts.
My current job is an actual giant corporation so now I know that when a new position is opened this is how it goes:
1) Look for people already working in the company that would be a better fit in this new position than their current position. If this fails
2) Ask your employees (already professionals in the field) for anyone they would trust in the position. If this fails
3) Give up and then finally put up a public offering on linked in.
