There isn't really an answer to this question because the impact of the solutions depends on the nature of the solutions. For example, if your general case solution to an issue is magnitudes harder to compute than the special case solutions, to the point of uselessness, then there is no point.

The only thing a solution definitely does is redirect all work towards a solution to something else.
