What's /sci/'s take on telecom engineering? I have the possibility to switch from EE to telecom. At first I wasn't really considering, but recently I took an introductory course to power electronics and hated it; it seemed too disorganized, and baseless, as if there wasn't any reason behind any of the things we did except they had been done before and sort of worked. The fact that if I stayed in EE means taking two more full courses of power electronics repulses me. On the other hand, I quite enjoyed signal processing and math in general, and Telecom seems to put quite a enphasis on that.

In any case, my actual question is: what's the future of telecom? Any telecom engineers around here? General telecommunications thread if nothing else.
