How to get rid of chemical waste

I have about 3 canisters that are about half full with hazardous chemical waste that shouldnt mix and I cant just dump it into my toilet or in my garden. Do i really have to go into a forest and commit global warming or does anyone have some tips for an amateur chemist?

if you were a responsible person, you'd have worked this out before generating the waste.
if you try to do legit/legal desposal at this point, you run the risk of someone alerting the cops that you're engaged in illegal/unpermitted activity.

if you've got hydrocarbons, burn them.
if you've got acids/bases neutralize them and pour them in a sewer in the middle of the night.
if you've got heavy metals... idk what to do. rent a boat and dump them in the ocean - it's huge.

you can call a local recycling facility, they won't take it but they may tell you where to go.
you can call poison control.
you can call "environmental health and safety" or a similiarly named office at a nearby university.
all of these run the risk of catching a court case.
20 years ago the local university might have taken it, no questions asked, outside of their regular operations, and maybe sent you a bill.
today, you'll be branded a terrorist or would be drug maker.

there are hazardous waste dropoffs in most areas. google it for your area.
Make sure they're labelled properly and have been properly neutralized

and you can precipitate out heavy metals into stable sulfides, filter out the precipitate, double bag it and throw it in garbage

I dont know where you live but where I live it is perfectly legal to do chemistry its not like I am transmutating lead into gold or making drugs
I dont have a problem with my heavy metals, so ill just dump that shit down the sewer in the middle of the night i dont have to neutralize anything then and I can dump the dead rat that is floating in the waste bucket which is standing in my garden right with the waste down the sewer and dont even have to fish it out

OP, just call a service or agency to see who will take it. If you aren't able to find some place for free, the paid options aren't that expensive. Either way, its better than the alternative.

It is NOT illegal to do amateur chemistry. There are plenty of places that will take it.

If you dump it some place, you'll end up fucking up the environment and making it a little more carcinogenic for every person and animal that lives there, for decades to come.
