if you mean going by empirical measurements/observations alone, then certainly string theorists have absolutely no contact with empirical things like that. OTOH the modern scientific method, as opposed to the 1700's type Francis Bacon crap, relies a lot on thinking about mathematical models and their internal consistency, which is the bread and butter of what string theorists do

okay, hook a photomultiplier tube up to an oscilloscope and then shine a light into it through an attenuator. with enough attenuation you will start seeing discrete pulses rather than continuous noise. you just need a very dark room and a very good oscilloscope. this is something most anons here could do if they had the right equipment.

historically there are many many other experiments that happened before that kind of equipment (gigahertz/terahertz oscilloscopes) existed, so it is easy to pick on older experiments where the interpretation is not so clear, but they too reached the same obvious conclusion

How do you know that,
All I am saying is that light, is always a wave.
Never a massless particle.
A "photon" is just a wave-packet, it is quantised, but not in to matter.
It is simply a wave propagating in the background EMF left over from the big bang, that permeates the observable universe. Electrons induce this wave by moving between valence shells of atoms.
Electrons are negatively charged and that's why there movement induces a field change in the surrounding EMF

The speed of light it mitigated and "limited" by the fact that as this wave of light cannot reach a higher frequency range as frequency is inversely proportional to wavelength , so if the frequency is increased anymore the waveforms wavelength becomes so small the medium becomes "opaque" to it and converts it energy.
