Would we really not have GPS and mobile phones without the theory of relativity and quantum mechanics? A lot of people laud science because the technology on which it is based today works well. I used to believe that science is a prerequisite to powerful technology, but upon learning about the various unbelievably intricate inventions of the greek, babylonian and other ancient empires, (i.e. greek fire in pic related), which had nowhere near our understanding of science, specifically the science concerning the technology they produced, they still managed to do it. So how sure are we that without the "scientific revolution" technology wouldn't have progressed as far as it did today?
