because economics are relevant in pretty much every field outside economics as well (no it doesn't give them free reign)

if anything the opposite is true, economics is likely the most commonly misrepresented area of knowledge by non-specialists going. at any given time you can find politicians, scientists, journalists, actors, 95% of /sci/ and so on chiming in on issues that are heavily economic dependent without the slightest clue about what they are talking about but are *convinced* they do
