I suppose that makes a lot of sense as I never understood how blitz chess play seems to be even reasonably effective.
I think you are pulling in learned chess theory and techniques though. Besides memorizing openings and endgames, there are a lot of good "intuitive" rules of theory which can help with intuitive play like controlling space, tempo, initiative etc.
