>>11393384>Why are people inclined to conceil their true emotions?Because humans, like all organisms, are driven to spread our genes. And the reason we have this drive is due to natural selection: the organisms that were more driven to spread their genes are the ones that did, and therefore their genes passed down, into us. Natural selection has forged organisms with a strong desire to propagate their genes.
Ergo, humans, like all other organisms, will do whatever they can to spread their genes. Lie, cheat, steal. Whatever. And that includes "conceil[ing] [your] true emotions".
>But that doesn't make sense because many humans are law-abiding, they don't cheat and steal! Then they are merely signing up to the Hobbesian social contract. They are agreeing to live in a civil society and abide by its rules, so that in return they can be protected by the same rules (e.g. they agree not to steal, so that others won't steal from them).
This sort of social behaviour is not unique to humans. Other animals like elephants, apes, hyenas, all form social groups.
And why does any organism form a social group? Because it's more powerful, that's why. Imagine 1 human vs 1 lion, and 10 humans vs 1 lion. The 10 humans stand a much greater chance of survival, don't they?
