Hi /sci/, I'm completely uneducated on this subject and don't even know any science past GCSE level (exams when you're 16).
But I just watched a video about trees and it made me think about growing plants on Mars.
It would be easy, right? Use a big manifying glass to magnify the limited sunlight to simulate Earth levels. Use a greenhouse to trap heat so it doesn't get too cold at night. And get the CO2 for photosynthesis from the Martian atmosphere.
Of course you'd have to figure how to keep the greenhouse warm at night... either insulate it like hell at night, or have heaters inside the greenhouse, maybe running off big solar panels... and that might require so much energy that it's not worth it. Unless, like I say, you thermally insulate the greenhouse at night.
I bet I'm being really fucking stupid and scientists have already figured out this problem, and it's probably way better than my five-second ideas.
