BEEEEEEP is picture start. The pointy thing below this says how to move a pen up and down while moving it at a constant rate sideways. Notice that during a KERCHUNK we move the pen up and when it's going SCRITCHITY SCRATCH we move the pen up. The loudness or amplitude of the SCRITCHITY SCRATCH is how hard we press the pen down. So really each one of the SCRITCHITY SCRATCHes is a line of amplitude values and by stacking up lines we make a picture.
