I know this can be a hot topic, but do you believe fluoride prevents cavities and tooth decay? Also, regardless of the effectiveness of fluoride, do you believe the government should be allowed to medicate the water supply?

Fluoride does appear to help with teeth in limited amounts, that's why it's in toothpaste. It's in water as a way to get rid of waste while pretending to perform a public service. Drinking it really isn't necessary.

I've heard debates and I'm interested in learning more about it. The Cochrane Collaboration did a review and found that the evidence didn't support fluoride lowering the rate of cavities.

Fluoride only acts topically and already is in almost every kind of toothoaste. Salt is already fortified with iodine and we can take a supplement for vitamin C. The point is that we can control our dosage or choose to abstain from taking all other medications/supplements. You can argue that we can choose to abstain from drinking tap water, but it is by far more consumed than anything else especially since it comes from a municipal source. I believe cities should be able to vote on the issue after careful research of the studies. I agree that it's a dangerous precedent to authorize the addition of other supplements though.

From what I can find online the most common forms of fluorosis is harmless and in fact increases the resistance to tooth decay even more, it just looks like shit. Not the case for the first dude in your pic though, his teeth are absolutely fucked.
Personally I'm still more concerned about the potential brain damage.

Its not a matter of belief. It is proven beyond doubt, both by studies and in clinical practice on problematic patients.
