I think you might be wrong about that.
The tricky thing about "modern academia" is the intrinsically predatory nature of the system.
Intellectual property law is the enforcement of ignorance by rule of law, and the enforcers of ignorance are said to be the agents of evil because evil is born from the flesh/ ignorance.
I also believe that one or more individuals, with characteristically high quantities of resources at their disposal, would seek to suppress or disenfranchise institutions of thought for the purpose of capitalizing on the ignorance of common folk.
