I always loved engineering, but now I realise I just like the applied mathematics part.

It happens. I used to think I loved math, but what I really like is applying it. While I'm able to enjoy most simple math stuff for the sake of it (like euclidean geometry or calculus), I can't get into deeper stuff like real analysis
