>>11369401>>11369424>>11369539>>11372021There are hundreds of active religions and denominations, all disagreeing with one another. If it was merely a cope for death, you would imagine there wouldn't be anything more to be concerned about, and since essentially all modern religions and denominations agree wrt the afterlife, there wouldn't be any disagreements. Yet time and time again we see people go to war and sacrifice their lives to defend their religion.
For hundreds of years, religion has been a source of artistic inspiration, moral frameworks, churches provided social cohesion and profound philosophical and sociological insights. The reason most of the European countries are not anarchist shitholes like the countries in West Africa is christianity.
You can also look at the individual effects that religion has on people, as was brilliantly described in William James' book "Varieties of religious experience". The profound effects that religion can have and has had on individuals, the potential for personal transformation and philosophical insight it holds, is unlike any coping mechanism you can observe.
To write off religion as a cope for death is to deny humanity and meaning itself. But if you're a freudian pseud, I wouldn't be surprised if these things never had meaning to you anyway.
