It's because we struggle to to accept the absence of God.
And believing something without evidence is obviously rediculous.
So we use quantum physics to bridge the gap.
"God is real!"
"How do you know, where's the evidence?"
"Quantum mechanics provided evidence for the existance of God"
"Oh cool!"
How can you be a scientist and believe in the white Christian version of a middle eastern religion lol, why aren't you a Muslim or a Jew?
Because you didn't have Muslim or Jewish parents ;)
And your parents didn't take you to mosques or temples, they took you to church.
You know when a kids parents tell them Santa and the easter bunny aren't real, and they ball up their fists, and cry and scream and throw stuff and have a tantrum?
Your parents lied to you when you were very young. And they never told you that along with Santa and the rabbit, god was also not real, but more of a metaphor.
And when you hear it, that God or quantum mechanics isn't real, as an adult, you get those same angry betrayed feelings. And you just shut it all out.
So now Christian scientists (any person who was raised with parents that believed in God, so like 80% are all looking for evidence, so they don't have to feel like they were horribly betrayed and manipulated.
It's also why the Vatican runs it's quantum research lab, with the world's largest optical telescope, and releases fradulant quantum mechanics papers that are so abstract and insane that even the quantum physicists don't understand them. Anymore than you can understand 1+1=3.
The evidence for the existance of God,
The evidence for the existance of santa (I have seen him)
And the evidence for the existance of quantum mechanics are all the same.
"I read it in a book" or "someone told me"
