>>11365300I agree with him 100%. Everyone seems focused on the "no such thing as unhackable" argument, but the real point is the burden should be on you to protect your shit. If someone else can find a way to read your data then that's your fault and handling it through after the fact penalties like sanctions to cut international aid is the stupidest way to try to handle things.
A lot of the standard criminal justice model in place in the modern western world (to abstract this topic down to the civilian level) has a similar problem. Everything's focused on punishment when you could do a much better job working on reducing the possibility for the behaviors you don't want civilians to be participating with in the first place. Although this assumes you as a policy planner would actually want to improve things and aren't just trying to help your friendly neighborhood private prison corporation lobbyist push through some more victimless crime laws so they can make sure they have enough convicted bodies to keep their operation profitable.
