Cartesian coordinates really opened the floodgates. United geometry and algebra, and paved the way for calculus. The concept of the derivative soon followed, then the fundamental theorem of calculus a while later.

Result? Define result? As in an equality? A bridge between fields? A field? A tool used to better understand something? The problem you goyims have with posing such questions is lack of understanding of how big and vast math is. Such broad questions are inane to ask in the first place. Like just because you see E=mc^2 blasted everywhere doesn't mean it's better or more meaningful then say Wiles proof of FLT or Grothendiecks advancements for Algebraic Geometry. It's relative to what field someone does. It's like what's the hardest field in math? Like no, that's not how it works. There are some nasty hard problems in Combinatorics as there are in say the Langlands program. Some may be better at one or the other but collectively it would be impossible to come up with the "something"ist in mathematics.

Although it is not a "result" like a theorem or a new method and it was a process and not a point like event:
The invention of the Computer.
I consider it to be a "mathematical result", because it was kind of the final result of the foundational crisis, like Cantor --> Russell --> Gödel, Turing, von Neumann --> Computer.
