Do we have definite proof about MSG being harmful?
If so, why is it not illegal to use it in food? Chinese restaurants still under loads of MSG.

It's not illegal because there is definite proof that it's NOT harmful, not the other way around. Every study that's ever been done pumps people full of MSG and they report zero symptoms. It's salt with a stigma attached to it.

That's not true. The only way anyone would get seizures or headaches from MSG is because they were also getting lots of sodium. MSG itself doesn't do that.

You'd have a hard time finding a more benign substance people are irrationally freaked out by than MSG. It's harmless, but there's so much idiocy surrounding the topic that food producers gave up and started marketing "no MSG" products to meet the insane and wrong demand.

Let's put it this way. Stomach acid and bile is fine if it's in your stomach, it's another matter if it's injected intramuscularly. Location matters, timing matters, biological systems are highly synchronized. Essentially I'm not convinced that the first pass effect is irrelevant to glutamate absorption and distribution.
