I didn't watch the whole thing because I'm too fucking tired but why do mathematicians care so much about primes? From what I understand their largest application has to do with cryptography, and I also understand it's pretty foolish to care about applications in math.

Regardless, why do I constantly hear about primes from mathematicians? Why are they so important?

So you can think of the epsilon like an "imperfection." Depending on the context, either it says "we cant do quite as well as the square root of log of p_n" or it says "we can do just a bit better than the square root of log of p_n".
