You often hear the claim the 95% of the US is rural open space, I don't know if this is exactly true because I live in a rural are and know it isn't feasible to crowd things into every square meter. The other aspect comes down to efficiency and waste. Most of our food is poisoned, then wasted, there is abhorrent disgusting level of waste. Do we have the resources and space for that level of farming, even if vertical or decentralized? How about transport? How about getting these actually built? You factor in daily life and economics and you get into public transportation and other factors, then high density housing and Agenda 21-esque solutions for long term scaling.
