Women are usually more interested in people more than things, so they gravitate towards the social sciences. Thus statistics tends to have a lot more women since it's used a lot in those areas. There are women who have been successful in more pure areas though, like Emmy Noether, Claire Voisin, Emily Riehl, and Maryam Mirzakhani.
