How do I prove that inf(A)>sup(A) is not possible?
I'm just starting out learning maths and my prof asked me this. My answer was that by the definition of sup and inf it's not possible since inf(A) ? sup(A). He marked it as wrong and apparently the correct answer was inf(A)?a?sup(A) but didn't elaborate. What is the difference between these two?
