It's about what was then the character education "experiment" and it's how our schools in USA and some European countries are modeled today. The multiple authors that helped write it also had an editorial called "Social Frontier " where he talks about how the communist revolution of the USA will be through the teachers and how to help it along. I had to read through a ton of old congressional hearings from the 1930s on the book and character education and a bunch of board of education documents and it stressed me out. Some people may disagree on the topic but I think maybe they just need to read the actual documents before they totally brush off how our schools are just making our kids super fucking stupid. I looked through a lot of teacher's toolkits too and the lesson plans really spoon feed kids from elementary school to high school on class warfare and social justice and how humans are parasites to the planet. Call me old fashioned but I think we might want to just go back to reading writing and arithmetic. I volunteer at a high school and it gets worse every year so I decided I'd do some reading, I have like 10,000 pages of bullshit saved to read but my eyes hurt from screen time and I only have a few of the physical books. I think it's funny how we implement more programs to schools but we just get less and less results. The kids where I volunteer got to skip two days of school to protest guns and the teachers didn't do anything, and they don't enforce phone rules, kids can totally tune out. Some of them will say I have too much anxiety to participate and the teachers just accept it. And this school is one of the better ones around, LOTS of funding. Does anyone here teach in public school? It may not be /sci/ but it's probably the reason we have gender studies lol.
