Why would intelligence evolve beyond the necessities of mere survival? Most humans seem perfectly content laying around, eating, watching TV or staring at their smartphones. Most people's religion is consoomerism, sex, money, material goods. People literally drink alcohol to suppress their higher reasoning power. Not only that, but having a larger, smarter brain means it requires more energy that the body will siphon away from muscles and actual physical strength - not a good thing for the jungle. You can argue that smart people had greater reproductive success, but that really doesn't make any sense. Somebody explain this to me.
