Id like to start a conversation about evolutionary psychology and its relevance to human behavior in the modern world. Ive spent many hours researching this subject but I am still rather ignorant on it as explaining human behavior has millions of factors that go into it but I digress. We were meant to be hunter gatherers and our minds are specifically designed for this purpose. Yes our minds have evolved to an extent but when the industrial revolution happened technological advancements happened must faster than we could adapt to them. This results in a world of perpetuating complexity we are not genetically accustomed too. And as technological progression continues at a rapid rate our minds cannot adapt and we are left with remaining primal instincts that cause many social problems. I believe this is partially the reason depression is so wide spread in the modern world. We are met with a multitude of complex problems deriving from technological advancement such as overcrowded cities as a result of overpopulation and overpopulation is a result of life extending technologies and better health care. It is a domino effect of us expecting one outcome but receiving the opposite. Yes we protect infants and ourselves from disease but the natural world is not fit to house billions upon billions of people when before the industrial revolution there was closer to 500 million people. We have opened ourselves to magnitudes of bodily harm such as plane crashes and car accidents... etcetera that were inconceivable to the mind of humans a few hundred years previous. And not only have we opened ourselves up to more physical suffering we have exposed ourselves to psychological suffering that is experienced on an international scale. Overcrowding and poverty plagued environments cause many mental problems not to mention the disastrous consequences These factors have had on the natural world. The fact is the modern world is not compatible with our evolutionary psychology needs.
