Layperson here.

Is it possible to make a normally magnetic surface non-magnetic by any means? Even if (and preferably) temporarily.

Heating magnets and exposing them to shock can cause them to lose magnetism.
You could also expose them to 5G, which will give them aids and make them weaker after a few years.

I'm arguing with a friend bout magnetized boots on the hull of a space ship and how you could shake them off by doing something to the hull plating (like do an electricity at it or something) to make it non-magnetic

A realistic thing in a sci-fi setting would be to redirect heated coolant to the section of the hull that the boots were on, heating it to the point of losing its conductivity.

Depending/degaussing works. You need a coil and a programmable current source. Set a 0.5Hz sine wave and steadily ramp up the amplitude for ten minutes to 150 uT at least. Then ramp the amplitude down slowly for 20 minutes. That'll deperm in one direction.
