Should I do science with my right hand but do art with my left hand?
I have never tried writing a story with my left hand but I've heard the right brain is more creative.

I think that the right (creative) side of the brain is associated with your left hand, so you should do the inverse of what you said... If you had brain damage and your two hemispheres didn't communicate, but since you have a regular brain, then this is useless.

Not entirely, the corpus callosum facilitates communication between hemispheres but one side of the brain still has more sway over it's opposite side of the body.
This is observed in twitching, facial expression to name but a few.

That is interesting, so maybe OP's hypothesis is right. But science also requires elastic thinking, then maybe OP should use his right hemisphere/left hand to think about possible solutions, then use his left hemisphere/right hand to actually perform the calculations.
