I mean honestly, it all moves too fast, sections that take entire chapters on text books are blitzed through in one lecture.
How can anyone learn like that, my understanding is so shallow.

You go to university to get a education. While you're at the university, you learn the tools that assist you in thinking analytically. However you have to learn outside of the lectures as well.

No, dummy, university is meant to teach you the prevailing mode of thought. If you have a university degree then it means that you were able to understand and regurgitate introductory level material on a variety of subjects in some particular field. Teaching you knowledge is the one thing that university does do somewhat efficiently.

What university doesn't do well is test your problem solving ability. You get to that in grad school when you actually venture into the unknown for the first time.

What kind of horseshit university did you go to? I've attended 2 different ones, and they both promote *actual* learning. Yes, they want you to read the book, but that's because each chapter takes over 3 hours to actually read and understand. Do that and you'll learn something.

Absolutely, I learned an absolute fuck ton at Uni. Did a physics major with a math minor. I skipped about half the lectures, and instead spent that time studying the book and doing the homework meticulously. I did well with like, a 3.9 gpa. Some people were surprised I could do that well skipping so many lectures, but I was always surprised people could do so well spending so much time sitting there listening rather than reading. The key is to figure out how you learn. What works for you.

that's bullshit though. how exactly do they teach you? when your prof mumbles some bullshit for 2 hours in front of a 100 people? thats teaching? they don't teach you shit. they just collect tuition and in exchange they give you assignments and then grade them. and if you teach yourself in the process and keep getting passing grades, they will give you a diploma. what a brilliant scheme. fear of failing is the best motivation. especially when there is a lot of money at stake.
