But there are also parts in Africa were they are doing. I guess it could be some weird kind of getting the antidote thinking, like some indigenous tribes in the Amazonas region are drinking a poison cocktail to get immun against different animals and the crazy part is it works with some toxins. Probably the stuff about Dracula and people bleeding out, was rather accurate, if you think about the hemorrhagic fevers. So maybe their superstition were quiet grounded in reality. Interesting thing is, there currently is a big academic debate about, why exactly bats have so many serious pathogens dangerous to humans.
