Dude professors are not like this, much less math professors. If this is true, this is one exception. Literally most professors I’ve met are more than willing to have their undergrads help them out when writing stuff on the board

i know it's not always this simple, but don't let it affect you that he insulted you. it's not personal, believe me, it's just that he's probably embarrassed himself somewhat that he can't figure something out that he probably thinks he's above or has mastered.
i remember when i used to be timid about things like this, but i've resigned myself to making myself look like an idiot occasionally in class because i don't care anymore and no one else cares and usually it ends up mattering or resolving a confusion someone else had.
in fact, i had precisely your situation occur today in class, and we ended class without finishing the proof. i went up afterwards and tried to use my suggestion to finish the proof for the professor and couldn't do it. i felt pretty dumb! but then about 15 minutes later they sent me an email telling me they figured it out and that my suggestion was correct, and thanked me for the suggestion. not everyone will do so but know that secretly they are thankful that someone is giving them a way out of leaving the lecture unfinished.

This. In one particular final exam early in my undergrad, the professor protested that I couldn't possibly be in his class because he hadn't seen me at the lectures. I told him to stop putting his slides online if he wants all his students to attend. Got an A. That prof ended up being my grad school supervisor. I taught him how to mellow out. He's still waiting on me to submit articles he wants coauthorship on, 3 years after my M.Sc. defense. He'll get em eventually, maybe.
