I have wondered for a long time why self-replication of molecules would originate. Never mind why it would originate, why it would stay around for so long. And the simplest answer I could think of seems to be just that if by some cosmic accident self-replication arose once, it would naturally continue for as long as it possibly could, by virtue of its being SELF-REPLICATION.
