A good chunk of the history of philosophy is an endless and pointless debate of idealism vs materialism (which traditionally goes back to Plato vs Aristotle), and there doesn't seem to be any way to settle the matter since no experiment can be set up to falsify either theory: the moment we start experimenting, we're already inside the framework of both theories. Things that go beyond experience and are deemed a pre-condition of experience itself cannot be "disproved". And, of course, they can't be "proved" either. It's a waste of time best left to the humanities majors.
