So.... what the fuck is up with everyone putting down the India paper by running individual BLAST queries for the matching sequences?
Theres a thread on Twitter thats currently garnering a lot of attention (
https://twitter.com/guacamolebio/status/1223383400297324544?s=19), but it fails to facet the searches. It doesn't look for one match, and then look among those matches to see what matches the next sequence and so on.
What people are currently doing is not how you disprove similarity based on claims of multiple matching criteria. That'd be akin to me saying "you can't prove this new thing right here is similar at all to a car just because its blueprints include wheels, axels, seating, headlights, turn signals, and a gas tank. If we cross check against all other blueprints in this blueprint database for 'seating', we'll see sofas, dining chairs, rollercoasters, toilets and more. So it looks like those traits in that blueprint all are just common things you can find anywhere. What a nothingburger, haha"
