Depends. Programming is the basic shit but you could also do finance or other quant disciplines which are more about thinking and writing dirty scripts to perform automation than it is about programming per se. Real machine learning engineering is in that regime too but requires a master's degree because employers are retarded.
You could also go into optimization and related discipline (decision science, planning, econometrics).
Additionally, you can go tcs or qcs which are really just math and programming is just a tool. That requires going into academia though.
