This could destroy electrical transformers and take down the electrical grid. Things like cellphones, laptops, cars, etc will be fine. By putting some really big resistors to ground at strategic locations in the grid, we can mitigate the problem entirely. In addition if we have sufficient warning time, we can just turn the power off to prevent transformer damage.
