Positive thinking is obviously going to help a person recover, instead of negative thinking, but it can only get a person so far.

Of course some people might also get a placebo effect before the pills have kicked in - they want/expect there to be an effect, so they think there is, when really it's just the effect of their improved optimism.
But SSRIs are definitely not placebos. They make you feel high, it is a very noticeable drugged up feeling.
It's a bit like being on cocaine or MDMA - obviously nowhere near as strong or intense, but still. Or another comparison is that it's a bit like being a little bit drunk all the time, but with an upper effect, rather than the downer effect of alcohol.
