For instance, MERS and SARS ravaged China in the the last decades. Both MERS and SARS come from the family Coronaviradae which contains the families of the Corona Virus. The other factor is that all parasitic things need to adapt in order for survival. Unlike other areas in the world, China has the largest population in the world which allows for a more aggressive viral strain to survive. Meaning that the viral strain isn't relying on the fact if the host will survive, but whether if there are enough hosts for it to spread to.
