All you need to learn a language is a dictionary, a grammar guide, and motivation. Just carry the dictionary around in your phone and look things up as needed.

Just learn either one. My university's grad school requirement for people getting math doctorates is to either take 6 credit hours of a math writing course, or simply to be good enough at a language to translate a math publication from one language to another (reccommended ones are German, French, and Russian).
