First of all, helicopters are terrible aircraft. There are multiple components, which can cause a catastrophic and often unrecoverable failure, e.g. main rotor, tail rotor, engine. Add to that their vastly more complicated flight characteristics compared to fixed wing aircraft and you have a recipe for disaster.
Fixed wing aircraft have one single simple rule, as long as you go fast enough, you can keep flying. Since you can always trade some altitude for speed you can predict exactly how fast you can get in the event of an engine failure.
